"Head Prop - Studies 2013-2016" is the first collection of works by Japanese hair and head prop artist Tomihiro Kono. Starting his career as a hairdresser, Kono moved to London in 2007 and, while working as a hairstylist in the fashion world, pioneered his own unique field of "HEAD PROP," which views not only hair but the entire head as a sculptural space. He has also created impressive head designs for Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons runways. This book mainly features his work from 2013 to 2016, including experiments using geometric forms and diverse materials, sketches, prototypes, and finished works, and introduces in detail the thought process and trial-and-error process that gives rise to his sculptures. Published in 2017 as the first issue of konomad editions, which he founded, with an initial print run of 500 copies, it has been reprinted many times since, with the cover color changing with each printing: pink for the first edition, blue for the second printing in 2020, green for the third printing in 2022, and sky blue for the revised fourth printing in 2024. This book is a condensed representation of Kono's creativity and researcher-like attitude as he establishes his own unique realm of expression.
