"Tokyo Stream" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Tsuyoshi Hashimoto. Born in Fukui Prefecture in 1977, he studied under Takashi Homma, one of Japan's leading contemporary photographers, before going independent. This is a collection of works published in 2023, composed of images taken with the motif of taxis passing through the streets of Tokyo on a rainy night. In the summer of the same year, an exhibition was also held at Seibu Ikebukuro. From the artist statement at the time: "Tokyo was once one of the world's leading water cities. But now, many of its canals and ponds have been filled in, the presence of water is hidden deep underground, and the appearance of the buildings on the surface has changed dramatically. Even so, on rainy nights, the rainwater on the asphalt reflecting the city, the memories engraved in the land, and the chaos created by the darkness of night mix together, and the whole city begins to move like a single living thing. Then, an image of Tokyo as a former water city appears before my eyes. Countless taillights stretching out across the wet road. Their beams of light are like a flowing river, and the taxis traveling across the river surface are reminiscent of the ferries from the time when this city was called Edo."
