OTOKO JOY Vol. 5 London Report, a journal photographed by Japanese female photographer Yumiko Kiyomiya, is one of the pioneering female photographers active in the postwar period. Born in Tokyo in 1934, Yumiko Kiyomiya graduated from a photography junior college and, while working as a photographer for Josei Jishin, made a name for herself as a "royal household photographer." She is known for closely following the Empress during the 1,000 days between her engagement and wedding. While enjoying the glamorous world of photography, she also published a documentary, "Somewhere in Japan," around the 1960s, documenting the difficult lives of those living in the Fukagawa area of Tokyo's Koto Ward, then known as Takahashi's flophouse district. This book, the fifth issue of OTOKO JOY, published in the early 1970s as the journal of Suntory's "Squall Club," features illustrations by Yumiko Kiyomiya. Titled "London Report," this book features illustrations by Yumiko Kiyomiya. The photographs, taken over a period of approximately three years, beautifully depict the diverse culture of London, from sophisticated gentlemen and celebrities to fashionistas and hippies. The text by Aromu Mushiaki is also highly engaging.
