This is a collection of works by Eikyu (1911-1960), a leading Japanese painter, printmaker, and photographer of the 20th century, titled "Eikyu = Photo-Drawings: Posthumous Works (Produced 1936-1955)". His real name was Hideo Sugita. Known for his unique works created by placing drawings and objects on photographic paper and exposing them to light, Eikyu published a limited edition of 40 copies of his photo-drawing collection "The Reason for Sleep" (Matin Co.) in 1936. After World War II, he worked not only on prints and paintings, but also on photo-drawings and photo-collages. This is a valuable collection of works published in 1970 in a limited edition of 200 copies by "Shashin Hyoronsha," a publishing company led by Shinya Yoshimura, who is known for publishing Daido Moriyama's masterpiece "Goodbye Photography" and Shomei Tomatsu's "I am a King," and is also a renowned photography critic. Incidentally, the second issue of "Quarterly Photo and Video," published by the same publisher, also contains a work with the exact same title and content.
