Prague Invasion 1968 (French Edition) is a collection of works by Czech photographer Josef Koudelka (1938-). Born in Moravia, Koudelka first gained attention for his early photographs of the Roma people. He continued to explore human existence and historical traces while emigrating and traveling as a member of Magnum Photos. This work is a record of his work, taken as a citizen on August 21, 1968, when he happened to return to Prague just as the Soviet army invaded Czechoslovakia. Originally published anonymously under the pseudonym "Prague Photographer" (PP), fearing retribution, the work remained anonymous for a long time despite receiving the Robert Capa Award. Its background symbolizes the political situation of the Cold War. His photographs, capturing people on the streets, approaching tanks, and tense atmospheres, blur the boundaries between journalistic and personal perspectives and question the meaning of photography as an act of witnessing. This book is an essential piece for discussing the history of 20th century photography, documenting historical turning points through the physical senses of individuals. Published in 2008, French edition.
