"Reading Morandi" is a collection of works by American photographer Mary Ellen Bartley. Born and based in New York, she continues to explore the materials and formats of printed books, using them to create painterly and abstract images. The textures and tactile qualities of these materials, while at odds with the digital age, are remarkably simple, tranquil, and full of layered beauty. This volume pays homage to Giorgio Morandi, a master Italian painter who has long inspired Bartley. It features images taken during an artist-in-residence in Bologna at Morandi's home and studio, Casa Morandi, and his summer villa in Grizzana. The collection features a series of stunning illustrations depicting the inner dialogue between photographer and artist in these tranquil spaces, including Morandi's objects, library, and more. Limited to 500 copies.
