Photographer Cho Hyung-chi's photobook "Tokyo (With Lid)" was published by Bijutsu Shuppansha in 1966. His work has not been published in any camera magazines, and his only biography is listed in this book: "Born in Nagoya in 1940, graduated from Tokyo College of Photography in 1964." However, as introduced in "The Japanese Photobook 1912–1990" (2017), compiled by Kaneko Ryuichi and others, this is a truly remarkable collection of photographs. The content is comprised of snapshots taken in Tokyo, striking for its intense close-ups and high-contrast monochrome. The impact is reminiscent of William Klein and Elsken, and the rich photogravure printing further enhances the appeal of the works. While in some ways the works are typical of the period, few snapshots make such a strong impression. This book is truly an undiscovered masterpiece. In addition, Bijutsu Shuppansha had published Kikuji Kawada's famous book "Map" in 1965, and Yasuhiro Ishimoto's "Chicago, Chicago" in 1969, making this book one of the many valuable photobooks published during this period. Includes a case lid. (Note: According to documents from Tokyo College of Photography, the alumni activities include "1966, Sasaki Noriyuki, Tokyo Publications.")
