A photo book by Canadian photographer Jeff Wall. After graduating from university, Wall devoted himself to art studies under art historian T. J. Clark in London, and in the 1970s and 1980s, he not only produced photographs, but also taught at art universities and published critiques of contemporary artists such as On Kawara. Many of his works are based on the citation and re-presentation of his knowledge of art history, and are inspired by painters such as Édouard Manet and Katsushika Hokusai, as well as writers such as Yukio Mishima and Ralph Ellison. Wall gives his photographs a painterly multifaceted and narrative nature, while raising social issues lurking in modern life. Wall's "cinematic photographs," created under strict settings, have been highly praised for establishing a new position for photography in contemporary art. This book was published in 2005 as a photo book to coincide with an exhibition held at the Tate Modern in London, and includes Wall's major works, including "The Destroyed Room" and "Picture For Women."
