"SHASTA" is a collection of photographs by Japanese painter and writer Ellie Omiya (1975-2025). Born in Osaka, she graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Tokyo and joined Dentsu, where she worked as a copywriter. After becoming independent, she worked in various fields as a writer, screenwriter, film director, stage playwright and director, and radio personality, while also actively producing works as an artist, mainly paintings and installations, from the 2010s onward. This work is a collection of photographs taken in Shasta, California, USA, which she visited in 2012 to make a turning point in her life. She captured the magnificent nature, light, and the mystical atmosphere that she herself felt in the land, and she positions it as "more than a photo collection, this is a work of art in itself." In 2021, it was published simultaneously with "SACRED SPACE" as Omiya's first collection of photographs. This book is a culmination of Omiya's unique sensibility, which has crossed various fields such as words, images, stage, and painting. He passed away on April 23, 2025, at the age of 49, while undergoing medical treatment.
