"Taratine (Signed)" is a collection of works by Daisuke Yokota, a leading contemporary Japanese photographer. In the post-war 1960s and 70s, photographers such as Shomei Tomatsu, Daido Moriyama, and Takuma Nakahira challenged conventional realist photography, developing new forms of creation and presentation, culminating in their work with "Provoke," and Moriyama's "Goodbye Photography," and Nakahira's "For the Words to Come." Although their styles differ somewhat, Daisuke Yokota, like them, continues to pursue his own originality and the possibilities of photography through new styles and expressions. Through regular self-publishing, he continues to produce a large quantity of work every year, while the quality of his work also continues to improve. This particular book, published in 2015, can be considered a relatively early work and was released by Session Press in New York. It consists of images from a road trip in Aomori and photographs of a woman taken in a hotel room, and somehow evokes the works of Moriyama and Nakahira. However, the processing and printing style, achieved through the serendipitous nature of the images, is unique to Yokota, and among Yokota's works, this book somehow feels unusually human. Limited to 500 copies.
