This is a photobook by Klas Clement, one of Denmark's leading photographers. Born in 1946 to an artistic family—an artist father and a pianist mother—he spent his childhood in Paris and studied film photography at the University of Copenhagen. However, he soon aspired to become a photographer, working as a freelancer in Paris before returning to Denmark to study still photography. In 1978, he published his first photobook, "Skygger af Øjeblikke" (Shadows of Moments), and has since published more than 20 photobooks. His "Drum" series, depicting everyday life in Ireland, is considered a masterpiece and has been serialized by Books on Books. The artistic sense he cultivated through studying and filmmaking in Paris, combined with the melancholic style he felt in his native Denmark, expresses a refined beauty and richly lyrical stories, making "documentary still photographer" synonymous with Clement. This book is a poignant documentary set in the old East Berlin. This is a beautiful collection of works that aesthetically expresses the drama of cities and people lurking in darkness and silence, using a mix of monochrome and color images.
