"Tokyo 1936 (Second Printing)" is a photo collection by Koshio Kuwahara, a renowned Japanese photographer, critic, and editor. Born in 1913 in Ueno, a downtown area of Tokyo, Koshio Kuwahara was a childhood friend of Hiroshi Hamaya, a leading Japanese photojournalist, and was influenced by the photographs Hamaya took from his junior high school days. From the 1930s, he took candid photos of downtown Tokyo as an amateur, and after the war, he served as editor-in-chief of numerous camera magazines such as "Ars Camera," "Camera Geijutsu," and "Sankei Camera," establishing himself as a critic and commentator. When Daido Moriyama published his first book, "Nippon Gekijo Shashincho," he said that only Kuwahara's review was interesting. Since the 1990s, photography itself has been re-evaluated, leading to numerous exhibitions and the publication of many photobooks. This book is a collection of works published in 1974, and is one of Kuwahara's representative works, also included in "A History of Japanese Photobooks 1956-1986." The prints were handled by Nobuyoshi Araki and Kojiro Yaehata of Gueribara. Second printing.
