"Le Gendarme sur la colline" (The Policeman on the Hill) is a photobook by American-born, Argentine-raised photographer Alessandra Sanguinetti. Born in New York in 1968, she moved to Argentina at the age of two and has lived and grown there for nearly 30 years. Her previous photobooks have all been set in Argentina, including "On the Sixth Day" (2005), which documents the lives of suburban farmers, and "The Adventures of Guille and Berinda" (2010), which established her reputation as a portrait of two young girls. While she has been a member of Magnum Photos since 2007, this is Sanguinetti's latest work. It chronicles her travels through France, commissioned by Hermès and Aperture. From Calais to Paris, and then to Marseille and Avignon, the book captures "modern France" through a journey from the countryside to the city. Its sense of color, composition, and profound storytelling captivate readers.
