"American Parody" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Taku Arata. Born in Tokyo in 1936, Arata worked as a graphic designer in the 1960s, taking personal images as training. One of his images caught the eye of photo editor Shoji Yamagishi, with whom he had a working relationship as a designer, and was published in Camera Mainichi in 1969. He then turned to photography. While active in the fields of fashion and advertising, he also produced photobooks, primarily nude photography. This is Arata's third book, following "Erika" and "Patricia," and is a collection of images taken of Anita, a model, set in New York. This beautiful photo collection combines parody-style elements, such as Superman and the Stars and Stripes, with Arata's signature graphic design elements, and features both color and black-and-white gravure.
