"Hope Makes Visions" is a collection of works by Swiss-born photographer Robert Frank (1924–2019). Since "The Americans," Frank has continued to pursue a medium that connects personal emotions with fragments of the world, moving between photography, words, film, and collage. Even into his later years, Frank quietly combined familiar materials to give form to his daily memories and thoughts. This book, compiled in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at Pace Gallery in New York, brings together sketches, maquettes, and unpublished photographs from the 1950s to the 2010s. Rather than presenting finished works, the collection carefully captures Frank's "in-progress" forms as he moves toward expression, such as worn prints, scribbled lettering, and small models, conveying the rhythm of his photographer's thought. Against the backdrop of his long creative process, the word "hope" resonates quietly, capturing the faint, unseen presence before it becomes visible.
