"Stop Tanks with Books (First Edition)" is a collection of works by British photographer Mark Neville (1966-). Neville is known for his work spanning the fields of photojournalism and art, actively using photography as a tool for social and political intervention. Based on a project conceived in 2016, this book is an exceptional attempt to "weaponize" the photobook medium to directly influence global decision-makers. In response to Russian propaganda and discriminatory disinformation, this book features portraits and research that convey the true nature of Ukrainian people, as well as a short story by Lyuba Yakimchuk, in three languages (Ukrainian, English, and Russian). Produced in a tense atmosphere just before the invasion between late 2021 and early 2022, this book was rapidly produced and distributed free of charge to diplomats, politicians, NATO and EU officials, and others. Functioning as both a work of art and a clear "call" to the international community, this book is an extremely significant work that demonstrates that photography can be used to change reality. A second edition has also been published, but this is the first edition.
