Domains (New Fourth Edition) is a photo collection by Narahara Ikko, one of Japan's leading postwar photographers. After graduating from Chuo University's Faculty of Law, he majored in art history at Waseda University's graduate school. He subsequently became devoted to avant-garde art and cultivated connections with numerous artists, paving the way for his career as a photographer. He made a stunning debut with the 1956 exhibition "Human Land," and won the Japan Photo Critics Association Newcomer Award in 1958 for "Kingdom." From the 1960s onward, he established himself as a leading figure in postwar Japanese photography with works such as "Europe: Time Stands Still" and "Vanishing Time," which he published through emigration and travel abroad. He is affectionately known overseas as "Ikko" and highly acclaimed. This book is a long-awaited reprint of Narahara's masterpieces, "Contemporary Images 1: Kingdom," published in 1971, and "Kingdom - Garden of Silence, Inside the Walls, Sonorama Photo Selection 9," published by Asahi Sonorama in 1978. Comprised of two parts, "Garden of Silence," a photograph of a monastery in Hokkaido, and "Inside the Walls," a photograph of a women's prison in Wakayama, this highly anticipated book features numerous new images not previously included in the aforementioned collections. Published in 2025, this is the fourth printing.
