This book is a collection of works published in 1955 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the opening of MoMA in New York. The exhibition was curated by Edward Steichen, the renowned American photographer and MoMA's director of photography, in the 1950s after World War II, to advocate for peace and reconciliation beyond race. Featuring 503 photographs by 273 photographers from 68 countries, the exhibition environment, created with the cooperation of architect Paul Rudolph and others, was presented like a photo essay, weaving numerous stories. The resulting exhibition was a monumental success, subsequently traveling to 38 countries and attracting over 9 million visitors. While this catalog is still in print, this is the 12th edition, published in 2010.
