Ueki / Petits Pots et Jardins is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Yasuyuki Takagi. Based in Tokyo, Takagi has focused on the quiet nature hidden in everyday life and the traces of life rooted in the gaps of the city. His practice can be said to be an activity that poetically questions the relationship between humans and nature through the act of "taking pictures of plants". In this book, he captures the tranquil flow of time with restrained composition and soft natural light, with the theme of small potted plants and greenery in gardens standing in residential areas and alleys of Tokyo. While the subjects are anonymous, something like a presence or memory dwelling there exudes from the screen. In addition, a delicate sense is alive in the arrangement and the way the margins are taken, and the "voiceless existence" of plants living in the city speaks quietly with each turn of the page. This is the first edition published in 2015 by iKi Editions in France in a limited edition of 300 copies, but was republished in 2020 by Libro Arte in Japanese, English, and French. It is a wonderful book with a beautiful Japanese binding.
