Japanese photographer Hashiguchi Joji's photo collection "Seventeen's Map". Born in 1949, Hashiguchi has published many portrait collections based on specific themes. Through his portraits, he captures the human heart and dignity, and through his portraits, he records the society behind them. This book is a collection of portraits of 17-year-olds taken all over Japan, from Rebun Island in Hokkaido to Yonaguni Island in Okinawa. The title brings to mind Yutaka Ozaki, but the book captures young people at a delicate age where they are neither adults nor children (from the afterword). Many of them are students, but some are working and some are housewives. Their circumstances and lifestyles are diverse, and the accompanying text about their personalities complements the image of the photographs. "I wondered if I could make an attempt to highlight the various differences between 17-year-olds in Japan and at the same time show what Japan is like today - that was the idea that led me to this project" (from the afterword). Obi missing.
