Reflections of Tsugaru is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Sho Shibata (1981-). Many photobooks have been published with the motif of Tsugaru, the snow country at the northernmost tip of Honshu. Ichiro Kojima was a photographer who pursued documentary and formative beauty during the heyday of journalism, and later Ryoji Akiyama also published Tsugaru / The Life of Liao-er Sensei in 1978. Daido Moriyama also visited the area in the 1970s and held a solo exhibition at Nikon that year, but his collection of works was compiled around 2010. Since then, Masako Tomiya, who has become popular in recent years, has also released masterpieces, but Shibata is a true Tsugaru native who was born and raised here. He has published landscape and railway photographs, but this work features landscapes taken in the 2010s. This book is filled with incredibly quiet, poetic works, and the beauty of the shading and composition is stunning, reminiscent of masters such as Michael Kenna.
