"Tokyo" is a collection of works by Nobuyoshi Araki, a photographer who is still immensely popular worldwide. This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Araki: Tokyo" held at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Germany from 2017 to 2018. It is a revised and updated version of the phantom early collection of works "Tokyo: Nobuyoshi Araki Photobook 3" published by Araki in 1973 under the name "Reproduction Group Gueribara". The book features a unique series of photos with snapshots of urban crowds on the top and erotic women masturbating on the bottom, Nobuyoshi Araki's "urban theory". Arakiism is a combination of "reality" and "fiction" that unrealistically depicts the reality of the city's surface and the "desire" lurking behind the (female?) human side of the city. Copies of the front and back covers of the original edition are printed on the flap, and it also includes a translation of Koji Taki's text, as well as an essay by Yasufumi Nakamori of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. From Only Photography, a German publisher that publishes many high-quality photobooks. Written in both English and German. Popular edition.
