"Tai-do: Japanese Bodybuilders (First Japanese Edition)" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Yato Tamotsu. After being a male trainee at the Takarazuka Revue, Yato Tamotsu was affiliated with Nikkatsu and also worked as an actor. Yato is known for photographing Yukio Mishima, but it was his partner Meredith Witherby who connected him to Mishima and translated Mishima's "The Sound of Waves" and "Confessions of a Mask". It is unclear what prompted Yato to start taking photos, but it seems he was influenced by Witherby, who was financially wealthy and culturally well-educated. Witherby then founded "John Weatherhill Publishing" and published Yato's photo collection. Yato passed away in 1973 at the age of 48, leaving behind three photo collections: "Tai-do", "Hadaka Matsuri" and "OTOKO". This book is the Japanese version of Yato's first photo collection. It features photographs of Japanese bodybuilders, and also includes the image of Yukio Mishima, who wrote the preface. Published in 1966, hardcover. (Cover torn, damaged, repaired on back)
