"Tokyo Nostalgia" is a photobook by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's leading photographers. This book was published to commemorate the completion of the 8-volume "Complete Works of Nobuyoshi Araki Literature." It is a "photo novel" made up of images taken with a 645 medium-format camera since the mid-1980s. He decided to "make it look like a movie" from the time he was taking the photos, and there are 16 images per spread, and the flow of each image and the image as a mass when the page is opened, totaling 2,212 images. Araki says that both the material of Tokyo and the film technique are perfect for writing a novel. Also, the mechanism of the 645-format camera, which can take continuous shots instead of winding, gave birth to the idea of cinema. And as it is a movie, this book is also a homage to "Yasujiro Ozu's Tokyo Story," and while it has the same 8-page composition, Araki says, "The other one has dialogue, but this one wins in number and obscenity."
