"Photos of Last Year" is a photobook by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's leading photographers. Influenced by his father, a clog craftsman and amateur photographer, he began taking photographs, and after graduating from the Department of Photographic Printing Engineering at Chiba University's Faculty of Engineering, he joined Dentsu. While working (advertising photography), Araki used the company's equipment to explore new photographic art, and in 1971 released his privately published "Sentimental Journey," setting out on his path as a photographer. To date, he has published 500 photobooks and successfully held large-scale solo exhibitions both in Japan and abroad. This book is a collection of unpublished works taken by Araki from 1975 to 1976, compiled by FAPA (Japan Photographic Art Association). After leaving Dentsu, Araki took many photographs of Tokyo in the early 1970s, as seen in "Tokyo, Autumn" and "After the War," and this book also contains everyday scenes from that time, such as the streets and crowds of Shinjuku, Ginza, Minowa in Adachi Ward, where he was born and raised, and inside the subway. As with "Theater of Love," the cover design uses the same photographic paper box that the print came in. Limited Edition. Limited to 500 copies.
