"Noir" is a collection of works by Mika Ninagawa (1972-), one of Japan's leading female photographers. She is the daughter of stage director and film director Yukio Ninagawa and actress Tomoko Mayama, and graduated from Toho Girls' High School and Tama Art University's Department of Graphic Design. Along with Hiromix, she is a photographer who represents the "girly photo" boom of the 1990s, and is also active as a video artist, having directed the music video for AKB48's "Heavy Rotation." She is also famous for her portraits of celebrities and her lustrous still life of flowers, which are also described as "Ninagawa color." This book was the catalyst for her subsequent collaboration with Satoru Machiguchi of Match & Company, and while the coloring tends to catch your eye, it is actually a book of very beautiful illustrations and book design by Machiguchi, who understood that Ninagawa's charm lies in the beauty of his carefully calculated composition.
