Echo is a collection of works by Jeongjin Lee, a female photographer from South Korea who is currently based in New York. Born in South Korea in 1961, she studied calligraphy as a child and ceramics at a university in South Korea, and after graduating, she worked as a photojournalist. She then moved to New York and spent a year working on a project to document the lives of an elderly man who made a living by hunting ginseng, earning a master's degree in photography from New York University. She once worked under Robert Frank, a master of photography in the 20th century, and was fascinated by the vast "desert" she visited while living in the United States, and in the 1990s she released a series of desert works. Her prints using her Korean roots and deep monochrome landscapes reminiscent of calligraphy and ink painting are now highly acclaimed worldwide. This book is a collection of works published at an exhibition held at the Winterthur Museum in Switzerland from 2016 to 2017, and is a comprehensive summary of her 20-year career to date.
