The Nikakai was founded as an art association in 1914. The photography club was established in 1953 at the suggestion of Togo Seiji, a Western-style painter who was known as the "Don of the Nikakai." Tadahiko Hayashi, Shoji Otake, Shotaro Akiyama, and Yuji Hayada were founding members, and the Nikakai photography exhibition has been held every year since then. In the past, Shoji Ueda (2nd time), Yukichi Watanabe (6th time), Masatoshi Naito (11th time), and Shozo Watari (19th time) have all won the Nika Prize, and this book is a commemorative issue published to mark the 25th anniversary of the organization's founding. Included in the collection are works by Shotaro Akiyama, "Flowers," Shoji Otake, "Window," Yuji Hayata, "NUDE," Shoji Ueda, "Early Spring in the Alps," Kimio Aoki, "One Summer," Takashi Hamaguchi, "American Carnival," Kaoru Usui, "Industrial Japan," Takeyuki Suzuki, "Light: Legs," Ichiro Tanaka, "Work in the Alley," and, more unusually, "From America" by Yasushi Sugino, who is known for his mysterious photo collection "Touched Landscapes."
