A collection of works by American contemporary artist Lucas Samaras (1936-2024), "Samaras Album (Signed)". Born in Greece in 1936, Samaras moved to New Jersey, USA at the age of 11 and spent most of his time in Western New York. His diverse artistic expressions using various media, including performance installations such as his early "happenings", sculpture, painting, photography, and digital art, without being bound by genre, were a precursor to contemporary (photo) art represented by Cindy Sherman and others, which became mainstream in the 1980s. This is Samaras' first book, published in advance of an exhibition held at the Whitney Museum of American Art the following year. It is a biography (autobiography) that makes full use of various artistic expressions, such as clearly transformed self-portraits called "autopolaroids" and "phototransformations" that manipulate the wet dye of Polaroid film through self-portraits. Book included in The Book of 101 Books. Signed by the photographer .
