"Joke" is a collection of works by American photographer Talia Chetrit. Born in Washington, DC in 1982 and currently based in New York, Chetrit is one of the most influential photographers of today. For Fall/Winter 2021, she also created the imagery and visuals for the first collaboration between the collection brand Jil Sander and lifestyle brand Birkenstock. Her work spans a wide range of genres, from staged photographs and self-portraits with a performative, contemporary art perspective reminiscent of Cindy Sherman, to intimate images of family and close friends, and even urban snapshots. Her unique perspective, thought, and storytelling are neither too artistic nor too snapshot-like, yet her images are both sexually charged and identity-filled, making them both contemporary and next-generation. This is her second book, published by MACK in 2022. While continuing to incorporate Talia's signature contemporary art elements, it also offers an intriguing look at her portrayal of "family" as husband, child, and wife.
