A collection of works by American photographer EJ Bellocq (1873-1949). His full name is John Ernest Joseph Bellocq. During her lifetime, Belloc made a living by photographing machinery and ships, but she also photographed prostitutes in the legalized red-light district of her hometown, New Orleans. However, even after his death, Belloc was not particularly known as a photographer, but the young Lee Friedlander, who also happened to find the photographic plates, purchased them, printed them himself, and gave them to John Szarkowski of MoMA. After introducing it, it became well known. This book is a masterpiece with illustrations printed by Friedlander, edited by Szarkowski, and a foreword by Susan Sontag. Rather than works of female nudes, this is a historical record of women who lived on the margins of society, and is also a unique collection of records of photographers and models who enjoyed both photographing and being photographed. This book is highly useful as a record of the social background, buildings, and people of the time.
