"Drawer of Memory" is a collection of works by Kazuo Kitai, one of Japan's leading postwar photographers. Kitai has published many documentary-based collections of works, mainly on themes such as "struggle," "countryside," "nature," "life," and sometimes "China." This is his first autobiographical essay collection, published in 2016 by the now defunct Nippon Camera Company. While introducing many of his representative works, such as "Sanrizuka," "A Landscape I Once Saw," "To the Village," "A Journey through German Expressionism in the 1920s," "New World Story," "Funabashi Story," "Weather," "Beijing in the 1990s," "A Walk with Leica," and "Road," the book asks what he has been thinking about when taking photographs and facing them. It is a well-written book that draws on memories from the time of shooting.
