A collection of works by Robert Capa (1913-1954), a leading photojournalist and war photographer of the 20th century. His real name is Andre Friedman. Born into a Jewish family from Hungary, Friedman escaped domestic political oppression and the rise of the Nazis, moved to Paris, and began working with Gerda Taro, who became his public and private partner. And the "Crumbling Soldier", which is also the cover of this book, was filmed during the Spanish Civil War and decorated the cover of "LIFE" etc., and the name of Capa became known all over the world at once. However, at the same time Capa lost Gerda on the battlefield during this coverage in Spain. I was still young at 26. This book dedicated to Gerda was published in 1938, the year after his death, and André Kertesz was in charge of the layout of the illustrations. In 2020, the long-awaited reprint was published, but with new scans from negatives, the images in this book are not only Capa and Gerda, but also the founding members of later Magnum Photos. It was newly discovered that there are a considerable number of illustrations taken by David Seymour (commonly known as Chim). There are various opinions about Capa, such as Kotaro Sawaki's "The Cross of Capa" and "Chasing the Capa", but in any case, it is a book that can be said to be one of the best battlefield photo collections.
