Photo book "Meals / The Banquet (With OBI)" by Nobuyoshi Araki (1940-), one of Japan's leading photographers. Influenced by his father, who was a clog maker and an amateur photographer, he started photography. While working, in 1971 he published his private edition of "Sentimental Journey", embarking on a career as a photographer. To date, he has published over 500 photobooks and has successfully held large-scale solo exhibitions both in Japan and overseas. This book, as the title suggests, is a photograph of the meal Araki took. It was created by Yoko, who died young and was a beloved wife who was indispensable in talking about Araki's photographs. The color close-ups of the meals are raw and grotesque, yet give an erotic impression typical of Araki. In the second half, where "meal was a love affair to death," it becomes a home-cooked meal with a life expectancy of one month, and then turns black and white. This is a book where you can get a glimpse of the relationship between Araki and Yoko, a couple that has gone down in the history of Japanese photography, even from their meals. Comes with an obi. Published in Parr & Badger Vol.Ⅰ.
