Photo book "Yokkaichi / Yokkaichi (Signed)" by Japanese photographer Kenji Higuchi. Born in 1937. After graduating from high school, Higuchi started working at Kawasaki Steel and felt pollution on a daily basis. Inspired by a photo exhibition on the theme of pollution in Kawasaki held by the Waseda University Photography Club, he quit his job and entered the Tokyo College of Photography. In 1966, after seeing a newspaper article about an elderly man in Yokkaichi who committed suicide because he was suffering from pollution and could not bear the hardships of life, Higuchi set out to investigate this problem. This book records the devastation of the people of Yokkaichi, pollution victims, and the industrial complex responsible for air pollution. Below, from the preface, ``High economic growth strongly promotes industrial and corporate development, and for that reason, residents must continue to be sacrificed, and their health and livelihoods must continue to be destroyed. As a farmer, I have personally experienced the weight of this history. It can be said that this experience inevitably led me to take an interest in the problem of pollution. I decided that I wanted to play the role of witnessing history, even if only a little, through the camera." Signed with respect .
