"Route 16" is a photo book of Daido Moriyama, one of Japan's leading photographers. After dropping out of Kogei High School, he has been working as an assistant to a commercial designer in Osaka since the mid-1950s. Moriyama headed for photography in 1960 when he entered the studio of Takeji Iwamiya, a leading figure in the Kansai photography world, and then moved to Tokyo to become an assistant to Eikoh Hosoe. He has been active as a photographer since the latter half of the 1960s, met Takuma Nakahira and participated in "Provoke", and since the 1970s he has left masterpiece photo books such as "Hunter" and "Goodbye Photographs". This book is a photobook published in 2004, and is a limited edition photobook published by Aisencia, which operates the "Daido Moriyama Official Site". It is a collection of snapshots around National Highway No. 16 that connects the metropolitan area in a ring, and Moriyama, located in the passenger seat, cuts out the car window. The side mirrors and windshield are incorporated to accentuate the composition, and the flow of light from the brake lights and lighting of the vehicle in front creates a sense of presence (driving feeling) in the tunnel. The roadside scenes such as the fence that seems to be Yokota Air Base, the high school girl in loose socks, and the show window are sharply projected.
