This is a two-volume set of "Nude" by Kishin Shinoyama and "Japanesque" by Ikko Narahara, both published by the Mainichi Shimbun in 1970 under the title "Two Shocking Photobooks." Though there is no indication, it is likely that the actual editing was done by Shoji Yamagishi, who was also editor of Camera Mainichi at the time. Shinoyama's "Nude" attracted attention for its "Valley of Death," which attempted to fuse nature with human beauty, and "See-Through," which depicts the intersection of nakedness with urban happenings. Narahara's "Japanesque," which was awarded the Mainichi Art Award for depicting traditional Japanese beauty such as Mt. Fuji, swords, Noh, Zen, sex, sumo, ren, and sen, is also a rare publication, even at the time, as it includes two particularly popular collections of works published around 1970. Both are second editions. (Included in The Japanese Photobook 1912–1990)
