"Acceptable" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Issei Suda. Born in Tokyo in 1940, after graduating from Tokyo College of Photography, he became the exclusive photographer for Shuji Terayama's theater laboratory, Tenjo Sajiki, before going freelance. He traveled throughout Japan, capturing images of everyday people and the extraordinary "otherworldly" moments that dwell behind them in his masterpiece, "Fushi Kaden," which won him the Photographic Society of Japan's Newcomer Award. Since the 1980s, he has expanded his activities overseas to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other countries, holding numerous exhibitions. Issei Suda, one of Japan's leading postwar photographers, continues to energetically present his work into the 21st century. This book, published in 1996 and awarded the 16th Domon Ken Award, is comprised of images taken over a period of approximately 30 years, from the 1960s onwards, in Tokyo and throughout Japan. Snapshots, street photography, and landscapes that capture casual fragments of everyday life are filled with photographer Suda's exceptional sense for capturing moments, his outstanding aesthetic beauty, and his strong curiosity as a photographer, making this a fascinating book with a unique blend of the ordinary and the extraordinary.
