Japanese photographer Katsuya Watanabe's photo book “City of Apocalypse”. Born 1941 in Kagawa Prefecture. Katsuya Watanabe has studied under Kansai-based photographer Hiroyuki Yamamoto since 1978 and has held exhibitions at Minolta Photo Space since the 1990s. Hiroyuki Yamamoto is a member of the Osaka Kogei Club, an amateur photographer group that was taught by Takeji Iwamiya, a famous Kansai photographer and educator, and is famous for its impressive landscape. Ao Kimio Aoki, who had a close relationship with Yasugino Sugino, called him “Allied friend”, and was a well-established photographer with a unique monochrome work with the motif of “city”. This is Watanabe's first book, but it contains avant-garde monochrome that inherits the genealogy of Kansai photography drawn by Sugino, Aoki, Yamamoto et al. The publication of this book is Aim Press by Eri Arino, which has many similarities to Arino's style, and in recent years, reminds me of Rei Abe, who publishes a monochrome photo book every year.
