"Few Loving Voices" is a photobook by Dutch photographer Peter Martens. Born in Rotterdam in 1937, Martens was a photojournalist active not only in the Netherlands but also in Europe and the United States. Active since the late 1950s, he was recommended as a member of Magnum Photos in the 1970s and a recipient of a World Photo Press Award. He was particularly known for his focus on minorities and outsiders, including crime scene reports reminiscent of Weegee, as well as investigations into non-events, such as homelessness. His most famous work is "Nothing Special," published in 1981. This book brings together the finest images Martens has selected from his archives in the years leading up to his death in 1992. It compiles photographs taken in Rotterdam and around the world in the 1970s and 1980s. The film depicts the people of the region from Martens's characteristic perspective, depicting poverty, religion, the injured, and punks, and ends with images of the death of his father and his mother who suffered a stroke.
