A photo book by Japanese graphic designers Tsutomu Toda and Emiko Hamaura. Tsutomu Toda is originally from the Kosakusha studio founded by Seigo Matsuoka, and has worked on editorial design for contemporary thought books and performance posters for Shuji Terayama's theater laboratory Tenjo Sajiki. With the publication of Mori no Shobutsu in 1989, he was one of the first to present the potential of DTP, which is a form of design and layout using a computer, both in Japan and overseas, and has continued to create designs with his own unique approach. This book is a photo book created as the "TOKYO CITY" version of the magazine Media Information, which Toda edited and published himself in the 1980s, and depicts the surfaces of buildings. Images of walls with cracks due to the aging and mottling of paint and materials, and stains that look like stains, are developed like abstract paintings. "Anonymous walls, stones, earth and metal covered in green moss, blue jelly-like chemicals, pink fluorescent paint and white powder are simply recorded and presented as 320 beautiful color photographs that seem to confuse the micro and the macro." (Ito Shunji, from Ryuko Tsushin)
