A photo book "A Tale of Two Cities" by Japanese photographer Yasuhiro Ishimoto. Born in San Francisco in 1921, lived in Kochi from 1924 to 1939, and moved to the United States alone. After studying architecture at Northwestern University in Chicago, graduated from the Institute of Design (commonly known as the New Bauhaus, merged with the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1949) in photography in 1952. After returning to Japan, he stayed in Chicago from 1958 to 1961. In 1969, he published a photo book "Chicago, Chicago", which was a collection of photographs taken during his two stays during his student days and after graduation. It is highly regarded as a masterpiece in the history of Japanese photography. This book is a collection of photographs published in conjunction with Ishimoto's photo exhibition "A Tale of Two Cities" held at the Chicago Art Institute in 1999. Composed of photographs taken in Chicago and Tokyo (partially Kyoto), the first half shows similar works taken in the two cities side by side, and the middle part shows the city of Chicago at the same time as "Chicago, Chicago". Finally, the photographs of Tokyo taken from the 50's to the 90's are summarized.
