This is a photo collection by Kazuo Kenmochi, one of Japan's leading postwar photographers. He called narcotics "magical drugs" and believed that one of a photographer's duties was to expose their reality and contribute to their eradication. He visited the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Narcotics Division in 1960 and began his research. This "government-approved" book was published more than ten years later. During that time, to prevent the explicit depiction of suspects and drug users' faces and appearances, he used the camera's mechanisms to alter their expressions, forms, and characteristics to such an extent that even the subjects themselves didn't recognize them. This book can be called a masterpiece of documentary work, born from his strong journalistic conviction and artistic sensibility. It's larger in size than his earlier work, "Magical Drugs: Photographic Document -Narcotic Photographic Document- (1963)," and the fact that it's printed by Gravure Seikosha is also appealing. This is a deluxe edition limited to 500 copies, a hardcover with an edition number, and includes a sample of the drug's form (the standard edition is softcover and does not include the sample). With a respectful signature .
