A collection of photos by Japanese photographer Hoshi Gento. Long before he got a camera, he was a lover of wandering around the city at night since he was a boy. After living with "loneliness", he wrote in the afterword that the air of the night sparked his own delusions, desires and curiosity. After 20 years old, he left Yokohama where he was born and raised, and went to work in a rural area at night. At one point, he had a good job and lived a gorgeous life, but closed his business leaving behind his debts. In the midst of such a turbulent life, he began working on photography in earnest after his mid-20s, studied at the Institute of Contemporary Photography, and has been a freelance since 2000. And this book is a virgin work released in 2007. A book composed of street photos depicting the “night town” of Shinjuku and Kabukicho, Yokohama and Kamagasaki. Rather than a sniper-like gaze like Daido Moriyama's snaps or Seiji Kurata's eyes, it's because they are like-minded people that the "loneliness" and "solidarity" that they could share are depicted beautifully, and human patterns that are invisible One book that is fascinated with illustrations full of "love" as if you picked up your heart.
