"My Wife" is a photobook by Norwegian photographer Petter Heglé (1969-). He studied at the Brooks Institute of Photography in the United States and worked as an assistant to Richard Avedon in New York. He later became an internationally renowned photographer for his works focusing on the female body. This work, published by Edition Stemmle in 2000, is one of his early representative works, and the subject is his then-wife, Svanborg Solisdóttir, from Iceland. Composed of thousands of photographs taken by the couple from around 1996 when they met, the book unfolds like a visual diary of their life together, from everyday life and travels to casual moments and intimate scenes. In the sense that it directly brings the relationship with the closest person and private life into the photograph, it can be placed in the lineage of "personal photography" that is similar to that of Nobuyoshi Araki and Masahisa Fukase. On the other hand, unlike Heglé's later, meticulously staged works, here the fleeting nature and the distance between the two are vividly preserved, and the relationships of photographer and model, husband and wife, overlap. This book showcases the diverse forms of expression found in personal photography, while also conveying the origins of Hegure's photographic world.
