"Suomi" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Koji Honda (1979-). Born in Aichi Prefecture and raised in Hyogo Prefecture, Honda graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Kumamoto University. After working for a travel company, he pursued a career in photography, studying under Hirofumi Nagano and Akio Tomari, and became independent in 2009. While working in advertising and magazines, he continues to produce works that evoke a sense of narrative within their tranquility. Titled "Suomi," which means Finnish in Finnish, this book is Honda's first collection of works, published in 2013, and compiles photographs taken during a trip to Finland in autumn. Rather than capturing the Nordic nature of forests, lakes, plants, and the sky as dramatic landscapes, he quietly captures the water and light floating in the air amidst the changing seasons, and the subtle changes in time that flow through the land. In the same year, he held a photo exhibition of the same name at the minä perhonen galleria in Kyoto. This book was also published by minä perhonen, a fashion brand founded by Akira Minagawa. This book, representative of Honda's early work, resonates with the brand's worldview, which has always cherished memories of nature and everyday life.
