"The Lost And Find - 500 Visions (Signed, 5/50)" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Toshiyuki Yamawaki (1956-2016). Yamawaki, who was self-taught in oil painting, drawing, design, and photography, and after working for a publishing company, established his own studio, "Studio a la page." While working as an art director on advertising and visual production, he began his career as a full-fledged artist in his 50s. The year after his debut photobook "Dimension of Vision," published in 2011, attracted attention and was praised by photography critic Kotaro Iizawa as "cultured photography," this book was published as his second work, which can be seen as an evolution of that work, and is a privately published work. Only 50 copies were produced, and it is a large-scale 1000-page work that was hand-bound by the artist himself, who handled the editing, printing, and binding, and contains 500 black and white photographs, with one work per page. Landscapes, portraits, cities, still lifes, and abstract images are linked together in a quiet rhythm, creating a structure that doesn't present a clear narrative, but rather allows new meanings to emerge through the interplay of the photographs and the viewer's associations. Printed using a discontinued, old-fashioned printing press, the images have a unique texture that allows them to subtly show through the paper, transforming the act of turning the pages into an artistic experience. This book is a condensed expression of "photographic expression unique to the medium of a book" that Yamawaki pursued, and is an important work that served as the starting point for his representative privately published series that continued with "DUAL I," "DUAL II," and "203PLANETS." Limited to 50 copies. Edition numbered. Signed by the photographer .
