Masao Yamamoto (1957-), a Japanese photographer based in Japan, holds exhibitions all over the world. This book, "A Box of Ku," is Yamamoto's first photobook, which brought him international recognition, and was released by the American publisher Nazraeli Press. While size and texture are major characteristics of Yamamoto's photographs, this book is composed of reproductions of his works. "A Box of Ku" is an early series that he has presented in solo exhibitions since 1993. The images he captures are fragments of everyday life, such as landscapes, flowers, and trees, yet the exquisite composition and tonal techniques create a unique poetic quality. The following is an excerpt from the commentary by Hiromi Nakamura (curator at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum): "Whether it's just one photograph or hundreds of them, they all exist with the same sense of atmosphere. Without any mention of location, date of shooting, or anecdote, these fragmented images accumulate, yet they still evoke a certain emotion within the viewer." Includes a booklet.
