"Sao Paulo" is a collection of works by Serbian photographer Boogie (1969-). Having started his photography career in Belgrade during the Yugoslav Wars and later moving to New York, Boogie has consistently photographed people living on the fringes of cities and places where social tensions manifest. Known for works such as "It's All Good" and "Belgrade Belongs to Me," he is highly regarded for his work that moves between street photography and documentary photography, focusing not on the surface of the city, but on the human emotions and realities hidden beneath. This book is a series created in São Paulo, Brazil's largest city, observing the daily life of a megacity experiencing rapid economic development while simultaneously grappling with serious inequality and poverty. Young people loitering on street corners, workers, the homeless, graffiti-covered walls, and dilapidated landscapes are powerfully documented in monochrome, conveying the tension and energy that permeates the entire city. However, what this book captures is not the social problems themselves, but the presence and gaze of the people living within that environment. This book captures both the intimacy and unease that arise from the close proximity to the subjects, quietly revealing the complex realities of modern cities and the resilience of humanity.
