"Unbewitched" is a collection of works by Russian photographer Kristina Roshkova (1996-). After studying philosophy, Roshkova turned to photography, and her work has focused on the fluctuating stages of youth growth, intimate relationships, and moments where memory and fantasy intersect. Her first photobook, "The Bliss of Girlhood," garnered international attention, and she was selected as one of the "Notable Young Photographers" by the British Journal of Photography, further solidifying her reputation as a leading talent of the post-Soviet generation. This book, her second photobook published in Japan by United Vagabonds, led by Masanobu Sugatsuke, contains a collection of works created against the backdrop of contemporary Russia, a society rife with stagnation and anxiety, using the word "unbewitched," meaning the world after waking from a dream, as a starting point. The intimate gaze directed at girls, boys, lovers, and sexual minorities, combined with richly colored images that seem to drift between reality and fantasy, quietly questions the nature of hope and imagination that remain even amidst harsh realities.
